Enjoying the nice weather.

Katie and I took a hike yesterday at Nixon Park here in Jacobus. (the town I really live in even though our postal address is York) It was a perfect day for a walk, about 75 degrees, and although there we some school kids on field trips it was basically empty for us to explore. We saw a Garder snake (in the wild), some butterflies and stuck our feet in the creek, it was very cold and I don't think Katie enjoyed that part of the trip. The last picture is of Katie in front of a turtle exhibit, you can't see the turtle becuase it was right behind her, it swam up to her and she loved it. Ok well today it's supposed to get into the 90's so we will be playing indoors.........Ugh.

Our Family Photo Session

Here are some proofs (?) of our family photo session yesterday. I think they turned out great, but we are a good looking family so what would you expect !!!

Katie Was on The News!!!

So York's local Fox affiliate was at Katie's NICU reunion on Sunday and Katie was the star of the segment! I know what you are all thinking, well Heather works for Fox 43 so that's how Katie got on TV, not the case; Katie got discovered all on her own!! Sorry about the picture quality, I took pictures of the paused TV with my camera so they aren't the best......Happy Monday!

Some Very Cute Pictures!!!

We had family pictures done today at my parents house and along the way I found some pictures to take! Katie had her first up close encounter with Sydney the cat, neither seemed to be bothered by the other so no scratches or hair pulling. (Sydney did end up running away after a few minutes, I think we were pushing the envelope by laying Katie on top of her?!)
Aunt Liz with Katie after the pictures were done. Katie did alright with the photographers, but you could tell she would rather have been sleeping.
Aunt Sarah and Katie, in her picture dress. This is Katie's new favorite face, we taught her how to moo like a cow and she can't do "m" sounds so it's just oooooooo. So far it the only sound she will mimic.

She's Sitting, well sort of.......

Katie is getting better at sitting on her own, every day she can sit a bit longer than the day before. She is now able to pull herself up to verticle when she begins to fall forward but if she starts to fall to either side you better be there with a sturdy hand because she will bite the deck!

This is an example of falling to the side, I had to put the camera down after this shot because she went straight forward and planted her face on the sofa cushion. She's tough though, so don't worry.....

New Things Katie Can Do....

Within the past two days Katie has realized that she can eat her feet and now I can't change her diaper without a foot slipping into her mouth.
Another new development is sitting. She isn't too great on land, but in the water she can sit forever and play with her ducky of course!

Guess Who Is 6 Months Old?

Today Katie turned 6 months old, it's been half of a year already! Time flies when you are having fun, I really get that now; it seems like only yesterday that I was pregnant. Since we are both getting over being sick there wasn't too much celebration but we did have a doctors visit and they like to celebrate by sticking needles in her chubby legs, four shots today.(poor thing) Other than the shots we found out that she is 15 lbs. which puts her just above the 25th percentile, she was 25.5 inches long which was in the 50th percentile for height (woo-hoo!!) and her head was 16.5 inches around which was in the 30th percentile. So she is firmly on the charts, finally, and developmentally she is right where she should be, she even sat on her own for the doctor today (she's a ham and all of the nurses there know it already!). After her appointment we came home and Kate slept for almost 3.5 hours, stupid shots, and when she woke up she was sore, hungry and generally ticked off at the world. She was only happy if I was walking with her, so we did some walking around the house, talking to every stuffed animal along the way. By about 7pm life returned to normal and for the first time in a long time I joined Katie and Nat for their evening walk. We didn't get too far, with only one lung functioning at normal capacity I was beat doing a small loop, but it was fun to get out as a family and enjoy the spring air. Well I am tired so I'm calling it a day, talk to you all soon!!!

Getting there....

We are all starting to turn the corner, I think. I still feel and sound horrible, but it's a better horrible than yesterday. Katie is starting to eat more, so I think she might be feeling better too. Now if she would just start to sleep again.............

Getting better!

We are all in recovery mode here at the Burt household. Katie went back to the doctors office yesterday and was given a breathing machine that Nat has to hook up to her every 4 hours for treatments. She hates it! I think the problem with Katie is that she is too young to be given any real drugs unless she is in serious destress and what she has seems to be a really bad cold, so we are trying anything. I think the treatments are working, she slept last night from midnight-5am without waking herself up coughing, so small progress. As for me my fever finally broke, yay, and now I am in the coughing everything up mode. It's disgusting, but I am feeling better.
We took a little break today and drove over to the new house. I think Nat needed to get out of the sick ward, plus it's only a 5 minute car ride so we took a little trip. As you can see the roof is now done, the front part is a metal roof, the brick work is done and on the inside most of the wiring is now done.
Just as we were getting ready to leave the house two deer ran across the back fence, they are right over by the mulched area on the left of the picture. I guess they got lost because they stopped there for a minute and then turned back the way they came? At this point I was totally wiped out and had to go back to the car, so we don't really know where they went. Ok well back to bed with me, Nat has, has, has to go to work Monday so I have to get better, those are direct orders.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!

Worse....

So now I have pneumonia, ugh. There probably won't be any new pictures for a while or any posts since I am supposed to stay in bed and get healthy. Hopefully these antibiotics will kick in and make me feel a little better soon; right now my lungs hurt, I can't take a nice deep breath without coughing up a lung, and I have the sweats. Lovely. Ta-ta for now, enjoy the rest of the week!

I'm Sick!

Nat's been pulling double duty as both Mom and Dad the past two days as I have come down with the flu. It stinks, I feel rotten, but worse I can't get near Katie because the flu is so contractable. Stupid flu. Anyhow, here are some pictures that I took today when Nat brought her home from a stroll around the neighborhood and of her eating her squash for dinner. Thank goodness for zoom options on the camera because the "Father Rooster" wouldn't let me anywhere near Kate.

New House

Here are some of the latest pictures of the house. The outside is almost done, but the inside really hasn't changed too much. (hence no new pictures) They still need to finish some of the brick work, siding, the front porch, roof and install the shutters but most of it is done and so far we are happy with the stuff we picked! I'll keep you updated on the progess....

Guess who's back?!

Daddy's back, Thank GOD!! It was a rough 8 days, even with the huge ammount of help that I got, but now that he's back things are right with the world. Today the three of us went to swimming class and Nat took the class with Katie while I took too many pictures. She had a blast swimming again even though Nat had some problems keeping her face out of the water. Katie cried a couple of times, but they were brief periods of sadness surrounded by long bouts of excitement. They played with the little crab above, did the Hokie pokie and ring around the rosie and all of that activity must have worn her down because she is passed out in her daddy's arms. Now Nat and I are going to watch Heroes from Monday, woo-hoo, and maybe take a little snooze myself! Picture taking is hard work too!!!

First Swimming Lesson!!

Today was our first swimming lesson at the Jewish Community Center and did we ever have a blast! Katie did so well, in fact I would say that she loved it. I'm not sure if it was the water or all of the other kids, the sights and noises, but she didn't wimper one bit. We stayed in the water for about 30 minutes and by the end of class she was kicking and splashing water in my eyes with great excitement. Looks like Nat and I made a water baby!
This picture was taken immediatly after dunking Katie under water, she didn't seem to mind too much.

Guess Who Finally Rolled Over!!

No I didn't get pictures of the actual first roll over but she did it for the first time sometime early Wednesday morning and now she can't stop doing it, she's a stomache sleeper and I found her in her crib at 5:30am on her back! Within the span of three days she has started rolling all over the place and grabbing her feet and playing with them constantly. Of course these things all coincide with Nat being away in Denver, so he has missed all of the action. And speaking of action tomorrow we have our first swimming lesson so stay tuned for pictures, I have to get to bed and rest up for the big day, can't be sleepy with a baby in a pool!

Katie Pictures!

Katie was pretty hammy for the camera today so I took a few cute pictures that I thought I would pass along. We are in the middle of some crazy wind/rain so we have been stuck inside all day so we played and worked on sitting up and rolling over. I swear she could roll over if she wanted but she gets half way and then just rolls back. I guess she's just a lazy baby! Sitting up is another story, she usually just flops forward and cries, I think this is where the premature thing comes in to play. She is just over 14 lbs. so maybe she just isn't strong enough to keep erect? Who knows, we will keep working on it though. Nat leaves for Denver on Wednesday and will be gone for 9 days; am I scared, you bet your a** I am! My Mother is coming over to help out, thank God, so I won't be alone. Please pray for a good week of sleeping and happiness!! You will also forgive me if I don't post anything, it could be a very long 9 days!!
My babies!
I guess we were working her too hard, she just layed her little head down and started sucking her thumb. Poor baby.
